When I think of the fall, I think of cool autumn breeze,
The welcome wind that blows leaves off the trees.
Crisp morning sunshine, sun low in the sky,
Birds in formation southward bound up on high.
Hot summer is over, when I don’t feel like doing
But in the fall I feel lighter; I get up and get going.
The air is electric, something I cannot explain
The promise is palpable; it’s like the smell of the rain
Soft sweet smelling freshness, like dew in the morn
In the fall I feel cosseted from dusk till the dawn.
Chimney smoke, conkers, red russets and oak,
Enveloped within a warm chestnut brown cloak.
The fall is my season, and magic, and love,
To me it is the wonder here below as above!
What is Nature?
What does it mean?
Everything is connected
Within the same dream.
Is nature the crashing waves on the rocks?
Glacial mountain lakes,
Wide wild highland lochs?
Is it the ivy prolific and free,
Twining round, up and through building and tree?
Is it the rain and the hail and the sleet,
Drenching and quenching earth under our feet.
What is nature?
What does it mean?
We are all connected,
We are in the same dream.
Is nature the call of the wild?
Evolutionary data imprint in each child
Is it instinct in salmon which helps to locate
Upstream their birthplace and where they should mate?
And when instinct fails, is this natural too?
What of humans; what of us?
Is our nature true?
What is nature?
What does it mean?
When all is connected
Within one big dream.
Is nature the force inherent in all?
That facilitates all change from a gaseous ball
To everything everywhere, all you can see
Every waterfall, mountain, desert and tree.
Even us in our cities, when you trace where we came,
Come from chemical orchestras resembling the same.
But nothing can replicate the feeling of awe
The bounty of nature and natural law,
To lie in a meadow, and look up at the stars
Away from the traffic, far from the cars.
We are one with this nature
We are on the same team,
We feel this connection
We help dream this dream.
